<---- that's G throwing a tantrum
My sweet boy is now 1.5 years old! What?! Time went so.very.slowwwly during pregnancy (or so it seemed) and once baby popped out, time has flown by (minus those first 2.5 months when I felt like I was going out of my mind for lack of sleep, etc.)
Here are the boy's updates:
- Favorites seem to be: playing with cars, doing puzzles, THROWING blocks/leggos, looking at/reading books. He is currently VERY in to playing with my nose, eyes, ears, etc. and especially digging his chubby fingers in to belly buttons- Daddy's is his favorite (haha).
- Words: I've noticed a LOT more toddler chattering going on- mostly unrecognizable but more words are emerging. WATCH OUT--->"Nooo" has made it's debute just within the past couple of days, he likes to really enunciate the "oooo" part. Thankfully he is only using this word with the dogs right now. His best friend A.J. is apparently really in to the "No" word right now (no fun for his Mommy) so I'm sure this has something to do with it.
I'm pretty sure he also said "down" this morning after I changed his diaper (on the changing table he no longer fits on). Truck, car, ball are all in his repetoire as well.
Side note: i am really interested in hearing the word please OR just seeing the sign for it from Gavin but alas, this is not occurring yet despite the efforts on our part to encourage this. Apparently there's no magic answer for it--just continuing to encourage him and modeling please and thank you's. Geez--learning curve! ;)
What's that and what's dis (this?) are his two sentences so far. "Uh oh" has arrived and the "ooohhh" part with a big gasping look on his face is hilarious.
Kisses: Gavin freely gives kisses to- his Daddy, inanimate objects, his lovey, stuffed animals, the dogs----but Mommy?? On sparse (and treasured) occassions I can ask for a kiss and get one. However, I get the snuggles (and when I'm lucky- eskimo kisses) most nights right before bed.
Future MLB/NFL, etc. player: this kid has a STRONG ARM! Just yesterday I took a hard hit to the crotch area from a toy cell phone he decided to throw!
Other behavioral stuff:
*Takes trash to the trash can when we ask him to (and currently doesn't play around in it).
* starting to want to do errrthing by himself (wahhh...but I still think you're a baby!)
*he continues to be cautious in new situations- even if he's been in this person's home or at the location before. He will take his time surveying the scene and then choose what he's comfortable with.
*tantrums: Ahhh, fun times. I am the lucky winner of viewing most of his tantrum throwing. Apparently this is typical behavior for the person the child feels most comfortable with---grrreat! How am I handling these? Thankfully it has not occurred out in public yet, but my plan is to do a variation of what occurs at home. I will make sure he's safe wherever he's decided to "show his butt" and walk away, ignoring the behavior. Usually I will also say something like- Mommy does not like/approve of, etc. this behavior." If out in public, I'll take him out of the immediate situation until he's able to calm down. Ignoring the behavior (AKA not giving in or giving it merit) but allowing him to get it out and express it seems to do the trick for now.
What are your thoughts or what has worked for you??
His 18 month (but really occuring closer to 19 months) well child check is coming up on 9/1. Can't wait to see how much this child has physically grown; I know I can't carry him now for extended periods of time.
